Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) conducts the commercial and regulatory functions of the harness racing industry in NSW. Operating under the Harness Racing Act 2009, HRNSW is chartered to operate autonomously of government in managing the strategic and commercial development of harness racing in NSW as a not-for-profit corporate body.

An excellent opportunity has now arisen to obtain a full-time Compliance Officer position in this exciting industry.

Applicants based in both Metropolitan and Regional locations will be considered.

Reporting to the Chief Integrity Officer the successful applicants will be required to undertake the following duties:

  • Conduct proactive property and stable inspections to ensure adherence to industry and animal welfare regulations
  • Prepare work directions to correct non-compliance issues and ensure the necessary remediation is completed
  • Resolve breaches and offences in accordance with policies and operational guidelines
  • Provide technical and educative advice to industry participants to increase awareness of regulations and enable them to meet compliance standards
  • Provide recommendations for targeted enforcement action or referral to external agencies in response to more serious breaches
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely reporting in relation to inspections and compliance issues
  • Participate in disciplinary processes conducted by the Stewards, including giving evidence at Inquiries and Appeals
  • Assist with the organisation and conduct of Human and Equine sampling
  • Assist with supervision during the use of the HRNSW Retention facility

The successful applicants will be provided with on and off the job training and may be required to undertake future studies to advance their career.

The Applicant should have the following skills and knowledge:

  • Previous experience within a regulatory/compliance environment
  • A desire to be involved in the regulation of the harness racing industry in New South Wales
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Sound computer literacy skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • The ability to understand and interpret the rules of racing
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality
  • A current drivers licence
