New Inquiries

 

  • 4 January 2023– Mrs KerryAnn Morris– HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Metformin has been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from AD MAIORA following its win in race 8, the NATIONAL TROTGUIDE PACE (2030 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Monday 29 August 2022. The reserve portion and control solution have been sent to Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria for confirmation.

 

  • 12 January 2023– Mr Brad Elder– HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole has been detected in the post-race urine samples taken from;

 

  • LIL RIPPER NZ following its win in race 7, the NATIONALTROTGUIDE.COM.AU PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Friday 4 November 2022;

 

  • LIL RIPPER NZ following its win in race 2, THE FEATURE SWEEPSTAKES MAIDEN PACE (2030 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Monday 7 November 2022.

The reserve portions and control solutions have been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

  • 24 January 2023– Mr Richard Camilleri– HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Peptides VYSNFLR (T17 fragment), VNFYAWK (T6 fragment) and SLTTLLR (T11 fragment) have been detected in the blood sample taken from ARTISTIC COWBOY prior to race 8, the SYDNEY DIRECT FRESH PRODUCE PACE (2125 metres) conducted at Penrith on Thursday 6 August 2020.

In addition, during a stable inspection conducted at the registered training establishment of Mr Camilleri, a shockwave machine was located and seized by HRNSW Stewards.

 

  • 31 January 2023– Mr Les Enks– HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Total Plasma Carbon Dioxide above the prescribed threshold has been detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from NEVILLE SHANNON prior to it running in race 4, the TUMBY PARK RON WHITTON MEMORIAL (1609 metres) conducted at Tamworth on Friday 20 January 2023. The ‘B’ sample has been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

Inquiries Concluded

 

  • 4 January 2023– Mr Brent Berry was found guilty in relation to three (3) charges issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 259(1)(j) & (7) in relation to betting on Australian Harness Racing races whilst a disqualified person. Mr Berry’s current period of disqualification of 2 years 9 months was ordered to recommence from 5 February 2022 by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 259A. In addition, a further 6 months disqualification was imposed for betting whilst a disqualified person.

 

Appeal Decisions

 

  • 16 January 2023– Mr Scott Wade appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for a period of 9 months after he was found guilty of two (2) charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory that Levamisole had been detected in the following samples:

 

  • Pre-race blood sample taken from the horse BETTER BRAGGER prior to Race 3 conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday 11 August 2020;

 

  • Post-race urine sample taken from the horse MANCHEGO following its win in Race 2 conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Monday 31 August 2020.

 

By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal, the appeal in relation to the AHRR 190 (1), (2) & (4) charges was dismissed. A decision in relation to penalty is to be determined following submissions.

 

  • 19 January 2023– Ms Grace Panella appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend her driver’s licence for a period of 14 days following a breach of AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving LADY PEBBLES in Race 1 at Tamworth on Thursday 10 January 2023. By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal was dismissed.

 

  • 23 January 2023– Mr Phillip Walters withdrew an appeal against the decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for a total period of 7 years and 9 months in relation to three (3) charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory that acetazolamide had been detected in the following samples:

 

  • Blood sample taken from PLAYING ARKABELLA prior to its win in race 7, the TAB PACE (1755 metres) conducted at Wagga on Friday 28 September 2018. HRNSW also received a report from ARFL that acetazolamide had been detected in the urine sample taken from PLAYING ARKABELLA following its win in that race.

 

  • Blood sample taken from PLAYING ARKABELLA prior to race 8, the CONGRATULATIONS MOLLY TURTON PACE (1755 metres) conducted at Wagga on Friday 5 October 2018. In addition, ARFL reported that an erythropoiesis stimulating agent had also been detected on screening. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) confirmed the detection of peptide VNFYAWK in that sample.

 

  • 31 January 2023– Mr Jack Callaghan appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to find him guilty of breaching AHRR 168(1)(a) when driving RED TRIX in Race 4  at Penrith on Thursday 5 January 2023 and the imposition of a $200 fine. By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal against the breach of the AHRR was dismissed and the penalty was reduced to a reprimand.

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of January 2023, HRNSW Integrity department obtained 770 Race day samples.

As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
