When Jemma Hayman was a teenager, she and her parents had different ideas about her future.

Jemma dreamed of a life with horses. Her parents had a good education and solid career in mind.

“My uncle owned a standardbred when I was about 14 and that’s how I got the racing bug,” Jemma said.

“I spent a lot of time at the trainer’s stables and started working there at weekends, but my parents channelled me to school and university.

“I thought I could combine a passion for racing with care of racehorses, so I went to university to study vet science and kept doing stable work on the side.

“I tried to do it all.”

Her success can be judged by her qualifications as a harness trainer, breeder, owner and trackwork driver as well as veterinary surgeon and now, someone with a keen eye for selecting yearlings with extreme talent.

We hold the view that Jemma is a true rising star of the sport in the west and anyone looking at tapping into the massive APG POT Of Gold on Sunday March 5, should have Jemma at the top of the list.

The above colt now named Off The Charts was Lot 413 from the 2022 APG Perth Sale, sold for $97,500 which was selected- purchased by Jemma Hayman for her ownership group that includes:

S W Goldsmith, R Smith, E Hoehne, F Lorenzano, J Di Virgilio, N A J Gumina, Accrescere Racing, Karnup Racing Pty Ltd

Off The Charts had his first race start yesterday and blew the field away to score a dominant win in 1:56.7

Off The Charts just happens to be the brother of Lot 153 in the 2023 APG Perth Sale, a filly by Poster Boy, Consigned by Karnup Racing Pty ltd.

Jemma is no stranger to the ultimate success in Harness Racing. In 2018 at the APG Yearling sales, she selected-purchased Lot 523 for just $22,000 that horse now named Double Expresso has been nothing but a dream for her connections. With $328,034 in stakes and a winner of 13 races including taking out the Group 1 2YO Fillies Sales Classic Final in 2019, followed by the Group 1 2YO Fillies Westbred Classic just three months later.

Thanks to the support of our major sponsor, this year’s crop of Perth Sales yearlings are eligible for the most exciting and best APG race series in the west, featuring:

  • APG’s 2yo Perth Sales Classics (2 x $125,000 races)
  • APG’s 3yo Perth Sales Classics (2 x $100,000 races)

Throw in RWWA’s incredible Westbred Bonus Scheme and incredible $225,000 2yo Westbred Finals, and it is easy to see why APG’s Perth Sales yearlings are such an irresistible proposition to buyers.

Anyone with a deep love of our sport ( Just like Jemma Hayman has)  should be at Magic Millions Sales Complex, 2/56 Dale Road, Middle Swan, WA, 6056 on Sunday, March 5.
