The biblical proverb “you reap what you sow” indicates that you must ultimately confront the effects of your deeds.
If the quality of 2yo pacing harvest in this year’s crop is any indication, then connections must surely have displayed angelic behaviour through their charge’s upbringing.
Publicly proclaimed by many as a prodigious group of 2yo colts, the best will meet in the Group 1 Channel Seven Perth Golden Slipper (2130m) at 7:52pm on Friday.
Never Ending is the pronounced favourite after scoring the golden gate of No. 1.
He has announced himself as perhaps the true ‘Valedictorian’ of the class with Group 1 successes at his two most recent starts.
His inexhaustible potential will be tested, however, by the untapped former-Kiwi Im The Black Flash.
While most have previously met, Im The Black Flash is the new pretender after scoring a resounding victory at his only WA run.
After working through a white-hot 34.9sec. lead time, he showed an appetite for racing that few possess, sprinting home in a 56.9sec. final half and rating a 1:57.1 mile rate.
Add the progressive Skylord for Young partnership Jocelyn and Madeliene to the mixture and the race is very much in the melting pot.
Members of the guild have understandably avoided the feature for their best selections but are prognosticating success elsewhere.
Boilover lover Pat Harding thinks he could be in his element this week.
“Should be a busy night at GP this week with 11 races but I think some good outsiders might bob up,” Harding predicted.
“My best bet comes in race two with the Hall-trained Master Publisher coming out of barrier seven. He had a good win last start and should repeat the dose.”
Trotting journalist Ken Casellas cannot acquiesce and suggests blue-and-white-stars colours will cross the line first.
“Star Of Diamonds should be cherry ripe and ready to produce her best in the Sunrise On Seven Pace after her two splendid efforts from wide barriers since resuming from a spell,” Casellas said.
“She surged home from last when third to Booraa, and then came from last to finish sixth behind Alcippes Delight last week. Barrier six is not ideal, but I’m happy to make her my best bet.”
The West’s Ernie Manning is also sensing a Howlett success.
“Highly consistent four-year-old Three Rumours has drawn gate three and should not be troubled by a switch back to the mobile barrier after winning easily from a standing start at Narrogin on September 17,” Manning said.
“The Barry Howlett-trained mare’s previous three wins had been from mobiles. Three Rumours ran second at five of six starts leading up to the win. Her career tally is four wins and 11 placings from 17 starts.”
Race caller Matt Young suggests the potent Nathan Turvey/Emily Suvaljko combination can unite and strike up Cool Water Paddy’s first WA success.
“Cool Water Paddy has caught the eye in both trials and his first-up effort,” Young said.
“He has the draw in a decent race and looks very hard to beat.”
Guild president regent Hayden King agrees wholeheartedly.
“Cool Water Paddy does his best work in front and should lead throughout,” King said.
“He put the writing on the wall with a slashing finish last week.”
It’s worth mentioning that the wise men from The West, Ryan Havercroft and Ernie Manning, both found Alcippes Delight at $16.10 on tote last week.
However, Havercroft went above and beyond, nailing the first 4 in order, which returned a handsome $4716.10.
This week he’s playing it more safe for his standout selection.
“Jaspervellabeach is a bold frontrunner and has drawn the pole in the 7Plus – Stream For Free Pace,” Havercroft said.
“It’s a small field with some capable types within, but the Gary Elson-trained gelding will be in front and he can be difficult to get past when leading.”

PAT: My double comes up in race six - the main event - the 2yo Golden Slipper. I think Valedictorian from barrier six can steal the show. He’s had a couple of good wins in recent starts and I reckon he can make it three.
KEN: For value, I suggest Cool Water Paddy in race eight. He was a promising first-up fourth behind Tenzing Bromac last Friday night, and he surely will make his presence felt from the No. 1 barrier this week.
ERNIE: Euphoric Moment ran a creditable last-start third at Gloucester Park and looked poised for a return to winning form after unplaced runs at his previous six starts. The gelding has won only once in his past 16 starts, but he is a winner of 15 races.
MATT: Miss Mucho has a soft draw and could get the breaks at the right time. Solid each-way chance.
HAYDEN: James Butt has very good gate speed and there is some chance he could run to the front. If not, he will be close up and dangerous in any case.
RYAN: Power And Grace runs into a strong field, but he is a gate speed horse and Kyle Simington is sure to want to utilise the inside draw. Looks to have each-way claims.
