The finalists for the Harness Racing New South Wales awards for 2021 have been shortlisted.

Voting has taken place ahead of the HRNSW awards ceremony, with a judging panel made up of racing media identities to decide on the winners of the 12 categories up for grabs.

Recently announced Australian Harness Horse of the Year King of Swing is a nominee in the Aged Aged Entire and Gelding pacing category.

He will be up against stablemates Alta Orlando and Expensive Ego, Len Smith Mile winner The Black Prince and 2021 Inter Dominion pacing heat winner and finalist Bundoran.

The David Thorn trainer multiple Group 1 winning filly Anntonia is among the nominees for the three-year-olds, while Jarrod Alchin’s emerging stars My Ultimate Byron and Madrid feature on the two-year-old shortlists.

A hot field is nominated for the trotting categories, including ID21 sensation Timothy Red, Rickie Alchin’s veteran champion Tough Monarch and the KerryAnn Morris trained Aldebaran Ursula.

Harness Racing New South Wales Chief Executive John Dumesny said the nominees were a credit to the industry after a year of sustained performance.

“The horses nominated for these awards have delivered outstanding results and consistency on tracks across the state over the full 12-month judging period. It is an incredibly elite list,” Mr Dumesny said.

“Their owners and connections should be incredibly proud to be nominated given the calibre of horses in contention for this year’s awards. I congratulate them for that. These shortlists show just how high the standard of harness racing in New South Wales truly is.”

This year’s awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Miracle Mile barrier draw on 28 February.
