New Inquiries

 

  • 14 May 2021 - Mr Shane Harmey – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report made by HRNSW Investigator that during a routine stable inspection on Friday 14 May 2021, BIG TIME HUSTLER which was engaged to compete in race 4 at the Newcastle Harness meeting on that night, was found to have swelling and what appeared as a puncture wound on its nearside jugular vein. The investigation is continuing.

 

  • 25 May 2021 - Mr Kevin Pizzuto – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Triamcinolone Acetonide had been detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from ACCELERE NZ prior to it running in race 6, the AGNES BANKS EQUINE CLINIC PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Menangle on Tuesday 9 March 2021. The “B” sample has been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria. The investigation is continuing.

Inquiries Concluded

 

  • 6 May 2021– Mr Peter McFarlane was disqualified for a period of 6 months following an investigation in relation to Mr McFarlane providing a treatment (Injection) to HOLY CAMP CAPRHYSE within one clear day of race 1, the SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Young on Friday 26 February 2021.   • 10 May 2021– Mr Tony Camilleri was fined $500 for misconduct and $4000 for assault for which $2000 was suspended for a period of 2 years on the condition of good behaviour following his conduct towards licenced participant Mr R Moore at the Broken Hill meeting conducted on Saturday 27 March 2021.   • 18 May 2021 – Mr Malcolm Locke was disqualified for a total period of 18 years and 9 months following an investigation in relation to the results of an Out of Competition blood sample taken from TUNGSTEN TERROR on 2 September 2020 which was found to contain recombinant human erythropoietin. The listed offences included a detection, administration, possession of an unregistered substance and a corruption offence. Mr Locke was ordered to pay HRNSW the sum of $12,200 as costs pertaining to the analytical tests that were costs borne by the controlling Body in relation to the prohibited substance.   • 20 May 2021 – Mr Doug Hewitt had his drivers licence wholly suspended for a period of 12 months following an investigation in relation to a report from the Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) and the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite, had been detected in a urine sample obtained from Mr Hewitt at Bathurst trials on Monday 29 March 2021. Stewards ordered that a period of 3 months suspension would be stayed on the condition that Mr Hewitt completes a drug and alcohol Program approved by HRNSW.

 

 

  • 25 May 2021 – Mr Tom Ison had his drivers licence suspended for a period of 6 weeks and was fined $1000 for improper driving at Tamworth on Thursday 20 May 2021. Acting under AHRR 174, Stewards ordered that OVERTHEMOON be disqualified from the race. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)   

 

  • 26 May 2021 – Mr Paul Russo was disqualified for a total period of 8 years and 3 months following an investigation in relation to the results of 2 samples where urine taken from MAGIC OATS NZ following its win in race 6, the WARDS ACCOUNTING CLAIMING PACE (1609 metres) on 1 December 2020 and following its win in race 5, the YIRRIBEE PACING STUD CLAIMING PACE (1609 metres) on 15 December 2020 contained the prohibited substance Levamisole. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au).

 

  • 27 May 2021– Mr Brent Berry was disqualified for a total period of 2 years and 9 months following an investigation in relation to Mr Berry’s conduct following a Stewards Inquiry held at the Wagga Harness Racing Club on Wednesday the 31 March 2021.

 

  • 31 May 2021 – Ms Amanda Turnbull – was disqualified for a period of 3 months following an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) and Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) that Triamcinolone Acetonide had been detected in a pre-race blood sample taken from WHOS MY MOTHER NZ prior to it running in race 3, the CORDINA FOOD CO NSW OAKS HEAT 1 (2400 metres) conducted at Menangle on Saturday 20 February 2021. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

Appeal Decision

 

  • 10 May 2021 Mr Scott Wade appealed the decision of Stewards to suspend his licence pursuant to AHRR 183 (a), (b), (c) & (d) following notice of a sample Irregularity to (BETTER BRAGGER – Race 3 @ Menangle 11 August 2020) & (MANCHEGO – Race 2 @ Menangle 31 August 2020). An appeal against the decision of the Stewards has been vacated pending the conclusion of the  Steward’s Inquiry.

 

  • 19 May 2021 – Mr Shane Sanderson appealed the decision of Stewards to disqualify his licence for a period of 1 month following six offences for betting related matters. The NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal upheld the decision of Stewards and amended the penalty to a total fine of $1500.

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of May, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained 795 Race day samples.

 

  • During the month of May, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained 16 Out of Competition tests (OOCT) from various stables in NSW.

 

  • During the month of May, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained 12 participant samples and conducted 18 breath test at various meetings and stables in NSW.

 

  • HRNSW Integrity staff conducted security measures at the registered Stable address of Mr Jason Grimson and Mr Jack Trainor;
    • Wednesday 5th May 2021, Thursday 6th May 2021, Friday 7th May 2021 & Saturday 8th May 2021.
    • Wednesday 12th May 2021, Thursday 13th May 2021, Friday 14th May 2021 & Saturday 15th May 2021.
