One of the best and most open races of the season will be staged today at Carrick.

The $12,000 Vandenburg Transport Carrick Cup has drawn together a quality field with a host of winning chances.

The state’s leading driver Mark Yole is chasing his first win in the feature event and will take the drive on the Peter Dornauf-prepared Sea Double Ugrant (pictured).

“The Carrick Cup is the only County Cup I haven’t won yet, it has been on the bucket list for a while now and I have a realistic chance of ticking it off today,” said Mark.

“Sea Double Ugrant keeps on stepping up to the plate for Peter, he has won his last three in a row and always gives you the feeling there is more in the tank.”

The five-year-old Four Starzzz Shark-Alma Grant gelding ran third to Harjeet in the Raider Stakes last season and comes off a last-start win in the New Norfolk Cup.

“He won at Devonport on Boxing Day and scored well in Launceston before recording a strong win at New Norfolk proving too strong for four of his rivals today, Inner Light, Dasher Houli, Im Compliant and Poker Storm,” said Yole.

“Izaha has drawn the pole and Barrie (Rattray) has forgotten more about driving than most of us know so they are going to be a tough combination to beat, Izaha won the Globe Derby and has already won two from three this season so I think he’s the one to cut down, but it’s a great field with any number of hopes.”

The Cressy Transport Tasmanian Country Championship is another feature race on the seven-event card while the Club will also stage the 2019 Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale during the meeting between races six and seven.

A number of former top race mares are represented at the Sale including the former Evicus, Sweepstakes and Blue Bonnet winner Cloudy Delight, Step Up And Play, winner of the Golden Slipper and Mother of Pearl, Tisu Holly (Granny Smith and Shirley Hills), Mon Soie (Belmont), Gun Filly (Eric Reece Memorial) and Moonee Valley winner Vernett.

There are relatives to a number of former top pacers such as Astral Francais, Foxfighter, Fox Port, Truly Blissfull, Vinokourov, Punt Road Disco, Shezallapples, De Galdearno, Strezlecki Lady and Ima Miss Molly.

Today’s seven-event Carrick Harness Racing Club card commences at 15.15 with the Cup run at 17.15.
