The Boort Trotting Club and Harness Racing Victoria are mourning the loss of long-term administrator Keith Salathiel, who passed away recently.
Boort president John Campbell said Mr Salathiel was a past president and life member of the club as well as a knowledgable breeder, owners, breaker, trainer and driver.
Since 1980-81 he had 1307 starters who produced 99 wins and 285 placings, with Colby his most successful performer winning 10 races including the Vicbred Pace in June 1998, a metropolitan win that delivered the greatest stakes triump of Mr Salathiel's training career.
Other multiple winners included Crystal Lynn, Mintmarke, Shikaree and Kentena Magic (winners of six races), Koala City and Rowan Bruce (winners of five races), and Kineta Clare, Mister Panache, Speclad, Okavango, Whistling Miss and City Strike (winners of four races).
Mr Salathiel and his wife Leila and children Kerrie and Peter are all involved in the industry, as is Peter's daughter, Katrina, who drove Centonic to victory at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Harness Racing Victoria extends sincere condolences to Mr Salathiel’s family, colleagues and friends.
