YESTERDAY’S Australian Pacing Gold Autumn Sale yielded some solid results as a host of well-bred youngsters entered the ring.
By some of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading stallions from a range of strong racing families, the yearlings were in demand, which saw the sale’s average rise 22.4 per cent based on an equivalent sale from last season.
An average of $8850 was reached, which compares to the average of $7,231 achieved at last year's Shepparton Sale and the $7,455 achieved at APG's last Autumn Sale in 2014.
Lot 640 – a colt by Art Major from Acaptivatingeagle – stole the show as the topper, being sold to Murwood for $25,000.
A daughter of Artistic Fella and Yerazig, known at this stage as Lot 639, was the premier filly, with a client of the Ahmed Taiba stable parting with $20,000.
Only yearlings sold yesterday are eligible for APG's exclusive $50,000 Group Two Autumn Sales Race as well as the Ladbrokes APG million dollar race series and lucrative Gold Bonus Scheme.
APG's General Manager, David Boydell, summed up the sale, saying "It is always a difficult market for the Autumn Sale horses. We deliberately invested in a $50,000 Autumn Sales race to firstly attempt to attract buyers to the sale and increase the demand for the Autumn Sale horses, but secondly to give vendors some additional opportunities if their yearlings failed to sell on sales day.
"I think it is important to emphasise to buyers that the passed in lots are still available for sale for the next 14 days, and if purchased during that time they can still be paid up for the Melbourne Autumn Sales Race, for a single payment of $550.
"As far as the sale goes, probably the biggest disappointment was that we didn't see as many of the smaller hobby trainers in attendance as I would have liked.
"I would have thought that this sale was an ideal opportunity for them to buy a nicely bred horse, prepared by some of Australia's leading preparers, and eligible for a $50,000 two-year old race that is restricted to a pool of less than 60 horses,
"Hopefully, some of those trainers will see the opportunities available and jump onto the APG website to make an offer on some of the passed in lots. We've already moved a couple of extra horses today, and I'd hope that we'll continue to see further sales over the coming days."
