Minister for Racing Martin Pakula today announced funding of almost $52,000 to purchase a new track spreader and upgrade the air conditioning system at the Mildura Harness Racing Club.

The Andrews Labor Government has contributed almost $26,000 in infrastructure funding through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund, with Harness Racing Victoria providing the same amount.

The club conducts 34 race meetings and 25 trial events at the Mildura Showgrounds each year, and currently hires a track spreader to maintain the racing and training surface.

The new spreader, which arrived last week, will give the club more flexibility when it needs to distribute fertiliser and soil to the track, and will save money on hire costs.

Four new reverse cycle air conditioning units have also been mounted to the ceiling which will provide cooling to the ground floor and first floor dining areas.

The racing industry in the Mallee region generates more than $58 million for the Victorian economy and helps to sustain more than 570 full-time equivalent jobs.
