Lifetimes of memories can be savoured amid the glitz and glamour of Breeders Crown semi-finals at Bendigo tomorrow night.

The club’s Harness Racing Memorabilia Collection and Library on its ground floor will be open on the race night, boasting historic books, photos, silks, equipment and race recordings among much more.

Club committee member and historian Noel Ridge said three years ago the club committed to building on its then modest collection and “put our efforts into preserving the history of the local area, which is quite rich”.

“It’s grown since then because people have trusted us with their treasures,” Ridge said. “We’ve collected trophies, sulkys, photographs, many, many books going back to the 1860s, and we’ve put it together.”

The museum is open free to the public every race night and will open an hour before the first race at Saturday night’s Breeders Crown semi-finals.

“It will be a really good opportunity for people on their way upstairs … to drop in and see us, have a look at the collection, have a browse and then drop in and see us again a race or two later. There’s plenty to see and we’re really hopeful that visitors to the Breeders Crown will drop down and see what we are doing.”
