Successful breeder and owner Harvey Kaplan has experienced some great highs in the sport of harness racing.  As a part owner of Baby Bling and Bling It On he has won some of the best races in the Southern Hemisphere and he is hoping to add the Bathurst Gold Tiara to the list.  Kaplan part owns Three Squared and she was dominant in her heat on Thursday and was clearly the fastest qualifier.

“I think she is a pretty special filly, it is just unfortunate that it looks as though I will be unable to get to Bathurst for the Tiara because my wife’s cousin is getting married the following day,” Kaplan said.

“My horses haven’t really gone to Bathurst for the Crown and Tiara in the past, I’ve always been loathed to push the babies especially on the old Bathurst track but the new track makes things different and there is also a ten day break between the Gold Tiara and the Australian Pacing Gold heats.”

Kaplan bred Three Squared and sold her at the sales however he was able to retain a share after she was purchased.

“Some of the McCarthy stable’s clients purchased Three Squared and I was able to organise to retain a share in her which I am very grateful for.”

“She is a full sister to the well performed Fly Like An Eagle and there is another full brother that will go to the yearling sales next year.”

Three Squared is by Mach Three out of Three Eagles and Kaplan purchased the broodmare on the internet.

“I bought Three Eagles off the Trading Ring on the harness website and she had a Safely Kept filly at foot but it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the mare.”

“I almost lost her, she was in foal to Art Major and the foal put its foot through her uterus while being born, the foal died and she was only given a 50/50 chance to survive.”

Since then Three Eagles has produced Mach Doro and Three Squared.

“Three Eagles is now back in foal to American Ideal, she has been a very good producer since I bought her.”

Three Squared got her racing name from Kaplan but was given her stable name by a few of the McCarthy stable workers.

“I love naming them and I thought Three Squared was a good name for her being by Mach Three out of Three Eagles but they call her Pippa in the stables and I’ve been told she got that because she is named after Pippa Middleton and plenty would be staring at her backside!”

The barrier draw for the Bathurst Gold Tiara will take place on Monday evening.
