Adam Fairley is quietly confident about the chances of Baby Bling in the Australian Oaks

Well known harness racing administrator Adam Fairley is enjoying the feature race ride with his talented three year old filly Baby Bling. The daughter of Western Terror took out the Gold Coast Oaks two starts ago before competing in the Queensland Oaks and will now head to Victoria this week to race in the Australian Oaks at Tabcorp Park Melton.

“It’s a side of the sport that I love,” Fairley said.
“I said on Facebook recently that it’s a great thrill just to be competing in these big races against the best fillies in the country and then to win the Gold Coast Oaks was something very special.”
Baby Bling started her racing career in New Zealand before heading west to join the Sydney stables of leading trainer Luke McCarthy.
“Harvey Kaplan and Kaye Kilgour bred and then raced the filly for the first two starts of her career before the decision was made to bring her here to Australia and that’s when I got involved.”
“I’ve known and had an association with Peter O’Shea for some time and he offered me the chance to be a part of her with him when he bought a share, when it was distinguished that I could own horses I took the opportunity with both hands.”
Due to the roles Fairley has had during his career he has not had many opportunities to race horses.
“Before I got involved in the regulatory side of the industry I had a horse called I Scream Mary but then I became a handicapper and because of the rules I had to relinquish my share in her but when I joined the commercial side of Harness Racing New South Wales I was able to take my share back and our group bred a few out of her, the best of her progeny would be Ultima Chance.”
“I went to Queensland and became a handicapper again so I was unable to own any horses, since returning to NSW and taking up the role as Racing Manager – Commercial I have become involved again. I won’t be there on Friday night, given her bad luck in races when I’ve been on course I am staying right away!”
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
