Stewards today concluded an inquiry regarding the tactics adopted by Gavin Lang on Skyvalley at Moonee Valley last Friday night.
Skyvalley raced in a forward position, but at its previous start on June 19, 2009 when it raced in a rearward position.
Stable representative Chris Lang Jnr told stewards that Gavin Lang was under no firm instructions other than to drive the horse where he believed it was comfortable.
Lang Jnr said the quality of the field last Friday night was not as strong as the previous start and therefore there was a better opportunity for Skyvalley to race more prominently in the field.
Stewards noted Lang Jnr’s comments, but reminded him of his obligation to notify stewards of any proposed change in driving tactics.
Lang Jnr pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 238 in that he failed to obey a stewards direction when he left the Moonee Valley racecourse after the race meeting on Friday June 26, 2009 when directed not to do so and was fined $500.
