SECTIONALS:  Mile Rate:  1.54.9     Lead Time:  37.1

First Quarter:  28.9   Second Quarter:  30.0         Third Quarter:  28.2       Fourth Quarter:  28.4

A pre race blood sample was taken from STORMFORTHEBOYS.

BETTABE PERFECT (NZ) (C Turpin) was obliged to race wide in the early stages before being driven forward to settle outside the leader near the 1600m.  When questioned as to the performance Ms Turpin expressed her disappointment in the gelding’s performance however, noted that it was resuming tonight from a four week freshen up and in her opinion would derive a fitness benefit.  A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

BETTABE PERFECT (NZ) commenced to give ground passed the 600m.

CLARKEY (NZ) (M Dux) was held up approaching the 200m before utilising the sprint lane.

The driver of RIVERLEIGH ROCKET M Dux was questioned regarding his tactics between the 400m and 200m.  Mr. Dux stated that when MAJOR MOMENT (NZ) (I Ross) commenced to give ground to his outside near the 400m he was not inclined to shift to the outside of WITH AUTHORITY (P McMullen) as he did not believe that RIVERLEIGH ROCKET would be able to sustain a strong run home from that point.  Subsequently he initially elected to wait to utilise the sprint lane before GEORGIA GRACE (M Neilson) which was trailing him shifted to his outside.  Once that runner commenced to improve to his outside he elected to shift to the outside of WITH AUTHORITY so as not to be held up.  Mr. Dux stated that he was also initially reluctant to leave the pegs at that point of the race as he was aware that the race favourite ANYCHANCE which was trailing him would be afforded the opportunity to utilise the sprint lane once he vacated that position.  Stewards noted the explanation.
