Andrew McCarthy, with father John and brother Luke
Outstanding Queensland driving talent Andy McCarthy is heading back to the land of stars and stripes AGAIN!
The young gun will fly out this Sunday bound for the United States where he will team up with former Aussie and leading conditioner Noel Daley.
McCarthy has held a burning ambition to return to America after a previous stint last year which proved quite successful on a driving front with victories posted at the famed Meadowlands racetrack in New Jersey plus Harrah's Chester racetrack in Pennsylvania.
"On my previous trip, it was all about the experience and learning more about the craft of training, farrier work and general horse care but Noel ended up giving me some great driving opportunities" McCarthy outlined.
"That was a real boost and I was so appreciative to Noel and his owners for giving me that trust, I didn't expect to drive but it has only fuelled my fire ever since I got back" McCarthy also added.
McCarthy heads back in a prime time with all the modern day pacing and trotting stars slowly limbering up for the Grand Circuit season which is fast approaching plus the added bonus of a warm summer expected once again.
"Im really looking forward to driving against the likes of Brian Sears, John Campbell, Ronny Pierce, Tim Tetrick, George Brennan, Yannick Gingras plus the Miller boys again, they're all world class drivers and you can learn so much from them" McCarthy stated.
Noel Daley, with a huge team currently firing with good recent success through the deeds of mighty mare My Little Dragon and tough open class performer Took Hanover, is only going to get stronger in the coming months with many of his other stars due back from the winter training base in Florida.
McCarthy is hoping to reunite with Took Hanover whom he drove to a sub 1.50 victory at the Meadowlands last year.
"Took is a monster, he's a great horse who should measure up in the best open class company this season" McCarthy added.
"I've kept a check on his recent form via the internet and he's going big miles at Yonkers so Im hoping to team up with Took again, the guys that race him are great" McCarthy also added.
Took Hanover, a stallion by The Panderosa has already been earmarked as a possible contender for next year's Watpac Brisbane Inter Dominion plus the World Cup according to trainer Noel Daley.
"He would be an ideal type of horse to race downunder, he's a tough seasoned guy with a good constitution" Daley stated.
McCarthy, a key element of the success encountered by his large family "Team McCarthy" stable outlined that he will be spending the next six months in America before returning home again.
