The 2006 Harness Racing Weekly Vin Knight Medal will be presented tonight at a gala function at Crown’s Palladium Room in Melbourne.

Honouring excellence in horsemanship, the award is open to both trainers and drivers and is based on performances at Victoria’s metropolitan meetings.

When voting went in camera at the end of May pocket dynamo Jodi Quinlan (pictured) enjoyed a healthy lead, but past winners Gavin Lang (2003-04) and Chris Alford (2005) were looming ominously.

As well as the prestige of capturing the award, the winner will take home a $5000 solid gold medal together with a trip for two to the 2006 New Zealand Cup Carnival.

Votes for the last three months will be counted tonight at the function which attracts hundreds of participants and enthusiasts from across the nation.

Along with the Vin Knight Medal, awards will also be presented to the Most Improved Trainer, Most Improved Driver and Volunteer of the Year courtesy of Garry Rogers Nissan, along with the Young Achiever of the Year courtesy of Terry Henderson.

Tonight’s function will also see another industry icon inducted into the Harness Racing Weekly Hall Of Fame.
