The Allwood Stud Farm 2018 SA Yearling Sale proved a major success.

A total of 25 lots of the 31 on offer were knocked down, with a large majority going to South Australian buyers.

The average price was $15,020, well up on the $6000 at the 2017 SA sale.

Gary Crocker, Chairman of the yearling sale committee, said feedback had been very positive.

“Vendors and buyers gave the sale a tick of approval,” Mr Crocker said.

“There is no doubt holding the sale at the Magic Millions Sales complex at Morphettville was the right move, and our auctioneer Adrian Hancock is recognised as one of the best in the business.

“I was able to stand alongside him during the sale and his professionalism was brilliant. He had done thorough home work on the catalogue and he gave every lot the opportunity to reach its price.”

Mr Crocker said he was delighted that about 90 percent of the yearlings sold had stayed in South Australia.

“It has to be good for the local industry that most of the yearlings have gone to SA stables and we look forward to seeing their progress to racing careers.

“I was also pleased that there was good sale support from interstate breeders who brought quality yearlings across for the sale.”

Top price for the sale was $40,000 paid by Victorian trainer Andy Gath for a Mach Three Colt while the Hartwig family spent $36,000 for a Somebeachsomewhere colt as well as $16,500 for a Western Terror filly.

Mr Crocker said the sale, with attached races, was a perfect base to build the sale going forward.
