CONCERNS have been raised in recent weeks in regards to the conduct, including inappropriate language, of licenced participants at race meetings and trials.

It is imperative that everyone involved in the Harness Racing industry promotes a positive and professional image at all times.

Participants are reminded of the Australian Harness Rule of 231(2), which reads;

AHRR 231(2)       “A person shall not misconduct himself in any way.”

Any person conducting themselves in an inappropriate manner, including using inappropriate language at a race meeting, trial or registered training track, may be in breach of this Rule and as such, charges and significant penalties may be issued.

According to Harness Racing New South Wales chief executive John Dumesny, the issue of foul language has attracted complaints.

“It is a social standard that we conduct ourselves in a manner acceptable to the majority but unfortunately a number of our fraternity have adopted unacceptable language practices in the presence of others,” said Dumesny.

“Hopefully these persons are mature enough to address the issue when others are within hearing distance.

“It would be disappointing to exhaust resources on policing Rule 231 when Stewards have other matters to attend to.”

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 33 racing clubs across the State.  HRNSW is headed by a Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
