Cardon Merger will attempt to win a second country cup at Wangaratta on Sunday.

Having broken through for his first country cup at St Arnaud last Sunday Kent Harpley could make it two in eight days when his gelding, Cardon Merger, ventures to Wangaratta.

In the heart of the Trots Country Cups Championship, Harpley joined Michael Howard and Darren Parkin on Trots Talk to detail Cardon Merger’s chances.

“I’m confident in that the horse is feeling really good and that’s how you have got to have them,” Harpley said.

“His work’s been good and he’s eating up. He needs a little bit of luck but he’s got a good turn of foot.”

Cardon Merger has drawn barrier six, the widest barrier on the front row, for Sunday’s North East Fasteners Wangaratta Pacing Cup.

“The draws don’t really worry me too much, it’s just the soft trip,” Harpley said, confident his seven-year-old has the pace to hit the line.

Whatever Sunday’s proceedings a worthy cup winner is guaranteed on what should be a cracking night’s entertainment.

Wangaratta Harness Racing Club secretary Bernadette Costantino told Trots Talk the club had a loyal base of trots lovers who “come back year after year”.

“We do our best to offer a great night of harness racing and family entertainment,” Ms Costantino said. “We could not have asked for more and I think this will be the first time Wangaratta has hosted nine races.”
