Harness Racing Victoria board member Peter Watkinson handed a mighty $12,500 cheque over Friday night as the trots dug deep for men’s health.

The donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia was received by foundation board member Geoff Underwood at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The grand total was amassed courtesy of winning drives by leading drivers Gavin Lang, Chris Alford and Glenn Douglas, with Harness Racing Victoria tipping $500 into the pool for every victory during December.

The drivers wore promotional silks throughout that period, raising awareness as well as cash for the cause.

PCFA state manager John Strachan said the foundation was thrilled to have joined forces with HRV.

“Prostate cancer is a significant challenge for Victorian men (one in four cancers diagnosed in men will be prostate cancer) and with HRV's significant network and community reach it provides an excellent opportunity to raise vital awareness of the disease,” Mr Strachan said.

“PCFA applauds HRV for this fantastic community awareness initiative.”
