Two of harness racing’s most loved enthusiasts, the late Ted and Edna Badcock, will be honoured during this year’s Winter Carnival with the naming of the Ted and Edna Badcock Memorial 4yo Championship (G3).

The race is open to all 4yo’s over the 2138m journey from the mobile (RBD) carrying prizemoney of $30,000 and will be conducted on the opening night of the carnival Saturday evening 1 July 2017.

Albion Park Harness Racing Chairman David Fowler announced that Neil Badcock, son of Ted and Edna and former Committeeman of the Albion Park Club has agreed to a five-year sponsorship of this time-honoured feature race. The Chairman went on to thank Mr Badcock profusely on behalf of the Club and the industry for this long term generous sponsorship contribution.

Mr Badcock stated ‘This was something that I have wanted to do for sometime. I’m very happy that I can do this for a sport that was very close to my parent’s hearts. They had a passion for the Standardbred and it’s a small token of appreciation for me to repay the industry from which they received so much joy and happiness from watching their horse’s race.

The Badcock’s raced many good horses headlined by the Queensland Sires Stakes champion Kentucky Bye Bye, who made a ‘clean sweep’ of the QBred feature finals as a two, three and four year and the tough New Zealand bred The Eruption both trained and driven by the former champion horseman Kevin Thomas.
