HE’S not quite ready to break into a war dance, but Queensland’s Pete McMullen hopes Globe Derby can continue to be a ‘happy hunting ground’.
McMullen will head to Adelaide’s home of harness racing tomorrow night as part of the Australian Drivers’ Championship.
The last time McMullen was in town was in 2014 when he captured the inaugural edition of the series, which pits a collection of the nation’s finest against each other in a six-race battle for the Australian title.
Each State will send two competitors to South Australia for the tournament, with McMullen to be joined by Shane Graham.
Graham finished third in last year’s running – conducted in Tasmania – and won by fellow Sunshine State star Grant Dixon.
With several handy drives on the card, McMullen is in a strong position to occupy to the bottom of the ‘totem pole’ while also keeping Queensland’s perfect record intact.
“I had a bit of luck there a couple of years ago and it would be nice if that can happen again,” McMullen said.
“I missed last year and am looking forward to being part of the series again…maybe even get back the title.
“Getting the win is just the bonus, which I would like to get, but the main thing is to enjoy it.”
