2015 Australian Drivers Championship participants
A COLLECTION of the nation’s finest will converge on Globe Derby for Saturday night’s Australian Drivers’ Championship.
In its third year, the tournament sees representatives from each state contest six heats with the title of Australian Champion to be decided on points.
Performances throughout the series will also be taken into consideration when determining who will represent Australia in next year’s World Driving Championship to be conducted in Canada.
Despite the home ground advantage, South Australians Wayne Hill and Ryan Hryhorec haven’t been dealt any favours in the draw, with both receiving their share of wide and second row barriers.
On the opposite end of the scale, New South Wales’ Todd McCarthy has five front line draws.
Ironically two of those – Courageous Cruz and Stylish Shiela – are strong winning chances trained by Hryhorec!
Barriers have also been kind to Queenslander Pete McMullen, who hopes the venue can continue to be a ‘happy hunting ground’ as he strives to regain his throne.
McMullen captured the inaugural series in 2014, but missed last season’s edition which was staged in Tasmania and won by fellow Queenslander, Grant Dixon.
This time around McMullen will be joined by Shane Graham as the ‘banana benders’ look to maintain the state’s perfect record.
On exposed form veteran Western Australian reinsman Chris Lewis and Tasmania’s Mark Yole shape as the pair to beat regardless of starting positions.
Each of Yole’s engagements has a recent win next to its names, while five of Lewis’ drives fit into the same category.
Although the first six races on the card form the Australian Drivers Championship, the contestants will also clash in the remaining four events on the program, which is destined provide patrons with some sensational displays of skill.
