Chris Alford talks to Rob Auber after Morton Plains wins at Melton.

Just days after battling out the SBG Accountants Metropolitan Drivers' Premiership veteran reinsmen Chris Alford and Gavin Lang were again to the fore when racing returned to Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.

Lang won with Hectorjayjay and Mister Wickham and Alford with Morton Plains and Upandatom, gaining both a trip to the winners' circle post-race and a chat with Rob Auber.

Alford said Larry Eastman's Breeders Crown winner, Morton Plains, again proved her ability to hit the line, if not at the top echelon of mares.

"She's been a good little filly, now mare, right through," Alford said. "Probably not come back quite as good since she went to Perth, but she deserved that win tonight.

"She's still going good, but just that 5 per cent makes a difference when you are running those good horses."
