Example of approved rubber covered snaffle bit (permitted if in good condition)

Effective immediately - 16 March 2016.

Any rubber bit used in racing or trialing must show evidence that the bit is reinforced with steel through the centre.  Any bit that is not able to show this can no longer be used.

The bit must also be in good condition and able to withstand the rigors of racing or trialing even if it conforms to this requirement.

A recent racing incident, where one of these bits broke whist a horse was competing, highlights the need for all bits to be in good condition for the safety of horse and driver.
