From 2017, Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) will move to guarantee Breeders Crown Final prizemoney levels, providing surety for breeders and owners and demonstrating a strong commitment to the Breeders Crown futurity.

In an important step towards protecting the viability of the Breeders Crown and to assist in delivering a stronger product there will be no heats run outside of Victoria from 2019.

Running heats only in Victoria brings the Breeders Crown in line with the structure of the Vicbred Super Series and creates uniformity among Victoria’s futurity brands – with a strong focus on Victorian trots and breeding.

While HRV acknowledges this change will cause some inconvenience for interstate and New Zealand owners and trainers it will ultimately create a product that is more conducive to competitive racing and wagering, which will result in greater industry returns and a more prosperous futurity program.

The consolidation of heats condenses the series by a week – giving horses an extra week between the Vicbred Super Series and Breeders Crown and frees up significant funds which can in turn be reinvested into other stages of the series.
