Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) today released its blueprint for the future of the harness racing industry, the Strategic Plan 2020.

The document is the result of an extensive consultation process, which included a call for written submissions and face-to-face sessions throughout Victoria at Bendigo, Shepparton and Melton.

Feedback from that consultation was recorded and, where relevant, incorporated into the Strategic Plan 2020.

HRV CEO John Anderson thanked all those who took the time to provide feedback and thoughts.

“It was encouraging to have some enthusiastic discussion at the consultation forums, with several ideas and strong opinions being discussed by people passionate about the harness racing industry,” Mr Anderson said.

The seven key challenges for the Victorian industry identified in the Strategic Plan 2020 are:

  • Horse Population
  • Racing Product
  • Integrity and Animal Welfare
  • Wagering
  • Participation
  • Financial Sustainability
  • Communication/Consultation

Many of the recommendations in the Minister’s Audit conducted in early 2015 are included in the Plan.
