Racing Queensland Stewards today inquired into the care provided to horses and greyhounds in the care of licensed trainer Andrew Martin.
On August 26 & 27, 2015 Integrity Regulatory Unit inspected five (5) greyhounds that had been in the care of Mr Martin and a number of harness, thoroughbred and other stock horses at his Camp Mountain property.
The greyhounds and a number of horses were found to be in an under nourished condition.
After considering the explanation provided by Andrew Martin and noting the steps taken by him to remedy the situation Stewards issued him with the following directions:
- Andrew Martin is to provide to Stewards by no later than 1 November, 2015 a budget specific to the costs associated with care and on-going maintenance of the animals.
- Andrew Martin is to provide by no later than 1 November, 2015 a statement from Harness owner Steven Clements regarding any financial assistance he is providing to Andrew Martin.
- Andrew Martin is not to increase the current number of animals in his care without seeking approval from the Stewards
- Andrew Martin is to notify Stewards of the location of all animals under his control and that no animal is removed from his care without prior notification.
Mr Martin was further advised the Stewards will continue to make regular inspections of the animals in his care.
Mr Martin was informed that Stewards gave serious consideration to recommending a review of his licence be undertaken to determine if he was a fit and proper person to be the holder of a trainers licence but on this occasion elected not to take such action.
However he was advised that should in the future it be deemed that he has failed to provide proper care and treatment to an animal in his care a recommendation to immediately suspend his licence would the made.
