Barynya took out today's Charlton Pacing Cup.

Tasmanian mare Barynya scored a tough win in today’s Charlton and District Community Bank Pacing Cup, breaking the track mile rate record for the 2570m trip by 3.3 seconds.

Last year’s Victoria Oaks winner held off all challengers throughout after finding the front early, eventually winning by 2.6 metres over in-form runner-up Villagem.

Barynya, a four-year-old, is by Blissfull Hall out of Lombo Anastasa.

Two-time reigning Charlton Cup champion Uncle Wingnut finished 5.1m behind the winner in third place – his one of the runs of the race, chasing hard in the score-up after galloping and losing his position before covering plenty of ground out wide early.

But it was Dick Eaves’ day, the Tasmanian trainer combining with reinsman John Caldow for the lion’s share of the $25,505 cup prizemoney on offer.

Barynya’s mile rate was 1:56.5, the last half completed in 57.

Trainer Nicole Molander and driver Chris Alford combined to win the North West Ag Services Charlton Trotters Cup with Lord Liam.

The five-year-old Dream Vacation/Invasions Pride gelding led from barrier three before handing up to Rod Petroff and Zedalite.

But Zedalite’s lead was short-lived, Alford quickly taking the favourite Lord Liam back to the front.
It was elementary from there.

Lord Liam sprinted clear at the finish, his last half-mile covered in 58.2 for a 2:04.5 mile rate, winning by 6.5m over Zedalite, with Bellmac Kody third.

In-form trainer/driver combination Geoff Webster and Emmett Brosnan enjoyed a double at Charlton with Ricimer in the Cup Day Fanatics 3YO Classic and Show Heeza Clasic in the Charlton Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pace.
