The $30,000 Frank and Edna Day Goulburn Cup is set to attract a strong field on Monday afternoon and while club secretary Mark Croatto is busy preparing for the big meeting, his workload has been reduced thanks to help from a local school.  Croatto has enlisted the help of the business students from Goulburn High School and they will be looking after some of the important tasks on the day.

“It is something that the Bulli club would do with its Linden Huntley Memorial meeting in the past, they would get the local business school into help run their big night and I thought it was a great way to get local students involved in the running of a race meeting,” Croatto said.

“Previously I worked at the Police Academy at Goulburn and I am very passionate about teaching younger people and giving them the chance of gaining experience which will help them later in life.”

Croatto confirmed there will be $1500 worth of prizes for Fashions on the Field.

“A local fashion house called Emllie is sponsoring the Fashions on the Field and there are a number of categories that will be recognised on the day, the students have organised the entertainment for the afternoon as well and I would expect a good crowd on the day if the weather is good.”

“Marshall Dobson is the MC for the afternoon and there will be a punters club as well so everyone will be well catered for, importantly the club is going to donate the money raised through the gate back to the school and it was where the Day and Hewitt children went to school.”

Nominations for Monday’s meeting close at 9:30am on Thursday morning and Croatto is expecting some of the bigger stables in New South Wales to support the meeting.

“The Belinda McCarthy stable has had success in the past at Goulburn and there was some talk they would have a runner and Shane Tritton has suggested he could have at least one in the feature race too.”
