Sunday’s Wimmera Mail-Times Horsham Pacing Cup meeting promises to cater for every demographic.

For the harness racing purist the trotting and pacing cup fields look first-rate with Group 1 performers in both races, while off the track children and adults young and old will be well looked after.

The adults will enjoy the bar, dining and betting options available, with Harness Racing Victoria’s Jason Bonnington manning the popular punters’ club.

There will also be double-seater sulky rides and mobile barrier experiences given away throughout the day, while the HRV Trot Selfies competition will see one patron secure a $1000 prize thanks to the TAB.

Club president Justin Lane said in addition to the offerings for adults, children were always entertained at Horsham trots.

“We’ve always had good success with the kids,” he said.

“This year we’re targeting getting the adults more engaged with the punting side of things by having a fair crack at our punters’ club.”

Lane said extreme heat had kept Horsham Pacing Cup crowds down in recent years but Sunday’s forecast was for 22 degrees Celsius.

“Hopefully we get decent weather and can get a good crowd there,” he said.

The Group 2 Horsham Cup is one of three straight western Victorian cups as part of the TAB.com.au Trots Country Cups Carnival following Stawell last Sunday and with Hamilton coming up next Sunday.

In addition to those meetings the Bendigo Pacing Cup will be held next Saturday night.

Leading New South Wales horseman Luke McCarthy told HRV yesterday For A Reason and Flying Isa would both compete at Horsham Sunday in the pacing and trotters’ cups respectively.

Other top-quality horses among the pacing cup nominations include Emma Stewart trained Restrepo and Philadelphia Man and Kiwis Arden Rooney and Bit Of A Legend.

“Increased prizemoney has really enhanced our fields for the cup the last 2-3 years,” Lane said.

“And that was the goal.

“The nominations for Sunday are outstanding.”

The first race on Horsham Cup Day is 2.50pm.
