Delight Me will be shooting for fourth win in five starts in Saturday night's Gold Chalice.
Delight Me has the makings of a top-line filly.
The three-year-old has the breeding, by top sire Bettors Delight out of quality mare Cornsilk, who won 43 races including the 2000 Vicbred Super Series 4YO Mares Group 1, the 1999 Breeders Crown and Vicbred 2YO fillies’ finals and was second in a Victoria Oaks in 2000.
And in four starts to date Delight Me has won three races, her only defeat coming in a heat of the 2YO Fillies’ Breeders Crown at Ballarat when she got within a half-head of Michael Stanley’s Soho Tokyo.
“She’s the better chance of our two (in the race),” Delight Me's trainer Emma Stewart said ahead of Saturday night’s 2240m Harness Breeders (Vic) Gold Chalice at Tabcorp Park Melton.
“Her form’s good and she keeps on improving. She won impressively last start.”
Delight Me scored by 8.2m over Viva Safari at Melton, sprinting sharply down the back before finding another gear in the home straight – her final quarter 27.6secs following a 27.5 third split.
“She went quickly down the back,” Stewart said.
Delight Me will start from gate nine, while Stewart’s other runner, Lovelist, will come out of four.
“I can’t see Lovelist getting involved in any early speed battle,” she said.
“She’s probably a run short for this grade.”
Seven last-start winners will line up in the Gold Chalice, including impressive Andy Gath trained pair C C Chevron and Shadow Flag, Brent Lilley’s Rebel Diamond and Russell Jack’s Grand Anse.
