Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Stewards do not permit the use of any equipment that does not conform to the Australian Rules of Harness Racing (ARHR) and the standards required therein.

Rule 271A states that a sulky shall conform to the standard set out in the document adopted by Harness Racing Australia entitled “Standard For Safety and Performance of Sulkies” and sub titled “The Sulky Standard.”

“The Sulky Standard” states that the sulky shall have an overall width of between 1.2 metres and 1.3 metres.

Prior to the first race at Ballarat on Saturday 13 December 2014, several carts were measured and a number found to be wider than the permitted 1300mm. These connections were informed that the sulky did not adhere to the standard and requested to obtain a sulky that was compliant.

Participants should now be aware that any sulky which is wider than 1300mm shall not to be used in a race or trial. Any person who permits its use may be subject to a penalty.
