The 2014 MH Treuer Memorial has had a significant prizemoney reduction due to ongoing finance issues with the Bankstown Harness Racing Club.

The purse of $100,000 has been reduced to $30,000 and is now of Group 3 status.

Club President Les Bentley said it was a sad day for the club but was hoping to put the race back to a $100,000 Group 1 event next year.

“We’ve got an ongoing court case with the neighbouring licensed club that has seen us starved of monies for the past three years,” said Bentley.

“It is difficult to continue business when a large amount of revenue is ceased.

“We are owed a considerable amount of money in back rent and the court case (due next Feb) cannot come quick enough.

“Although the Treuer prizemoney has dropped, there is over $98,000 in prizemoney up for grabs at the Carnival of Cups meeting on December 6. This means the meeting will still attract some of the smart horses in their respective grades.”

Along with the $30,000 MH Treuer the supporting card will have impressive prizemoney. This includes; a 3YO event at $10,000, CO at $8,000, $10,000 Trotters, Divided Stakes 1 at $12,000, Divided Stakes 2 at $10,000, Divided Stakes 3 at $10,000 and a Divided Stakes 4 at $8,000.

The date of the Treuer Memorial in FY 15/16 is still to be determined. This is a result of the repositioning of the Inter Dominion on the racing calendar.
