Chris Alford and Greg Sugars are ready to fly the Victorian flag at the Australian Drivers Championships at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Alford and Sugars will don Big V silks against the best reinsmen and women from across Australia at the inaugural event, which will be hosted by Harness Racing South Australia.
Alford and Sugars will line up against New South Welsh stars Blake Fitzpatrick and Amanda Turnbull, West Australians Gary Hall Jnr and Chris Voak, the hometown South Australians in David Harding and Ryan Hryhorec, Queensland’s Grant Dixon and Pete McMullan and Tassie’s Ricky Duggan and Gareth Rattray.
The drivers will accumulate points across a six-race series with performances factored into the selection of the drivers to represent Australia at the World Driving Championships in Sydney next year.
Alford and Sugars were Victoria’s leading drivers in season 2013-14.
Alford, who first started driving in 1984-85, has won over 5400 races throughout a stellar career, amassing career prizemoney of almost $38 million.
Sugars has been driving in races since 2000-01, making a name for himself as a tactical genius with over 100 winners every season since 2007-08, topping 200 wins in 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
