Limelight Beach, by Empire Stallions sire Somebeachsomewhere, has won the Little Brown Jug in the US.
Limelight Beach, a son of Empire Stallions' sire Somebeachsomewhere, captured the $647,500 Little Brown Jug, the second leg of the Triple Crown, on Thursday (September 18) at the Delaware County Fair, Ohio, in straight heats, winning his elimination in 1:51 and taking the final in 1:50.8.
Limelight Beach won the Jug from the front end, scoring by 1-1/2 lengths.
“This horse came up huge today,” driver Yannick Gingras said. “He went two big, big heats. We kind of got lucky a little bit in the first heat, there was a seam there and I was able to take it, but he came back the second heat and he was scary. He had plenty left.”
Limelight Beach started from the pole in the final and took full advantage of the starting spot, blasting to the front and controlling the action from there.
He cut quarters in 27.8, 27.6, 27.6 and 27.8 on the way to his historic win.
"I kept him moving along; I didn’t want to go too slow. He put in an awesome performance," Gingras said.
The win increased Limelight Beach's lifetime stake earnings to $409,570. He holds a two-year-old mark of 1:49.8.
A three-year-old gelding, Limelight Beach is out of a Badlands Hanover mare.
Empire Stallions has three Little Brown Jug winners on its roster this year in Well Said (2009), Tell All (2007) and Blissfull Hall (1999).
