Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) yesterday opened an inquiry into the Total plasma carbon dioxide (TCO2) levels returned from horses trained by Mrs. K Hillier since 1 January 2013.
This inquiry was commenced following concerns that a number of horses were being presented to race with elevated TCO2 levels. This was of further concern following raceday integrity operations that were conducted on the horses entered for the Albury harness meeting on 2 August 2014 and levels recorded on that occasion.
Evidence including the swab history reports of horses trained by Mrs K Hillier, and expert evidence from Harness Racing NSW Regulatory Veterinarian Dr Wainscott was presented at the inquiry. Evidence was also taken from Mrs K Hillier regarding the training of horses in her stable, her husbandry practices and compliance with the Australian Harness Racing Rules.
The inquiry was adjourned until 10am on Thursday 18 September 2014 for documents to be provided by Ms. Hillier.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
