Harness Racing NSW tonight announced the 2014/15 breeding season incentives as part of the harness media centre launch.

Initiative 1: The Foal notification fee has been reduced from $275 to $185 and the naming fee fully removed for Breeders Challenge sustained horses (previously $90). In total, this represents a total saving of more than $200,000 for NSW breeders.

Initiative 2: A $500 Breeders Challenge Incentive Certificate is available to breeders of a NSW based mare that is bred to a trotting sire from any state. Further details are available in the breeders challenge section of harnessmediacentre.com.au

Initiative 3: $500* payable on a live foal to the mare owners of a colonial bred stallion conceived in the upcoming breeding season. The stallion must have been bred in Australasia. The stallion must have won a Group 1 race and must be standing at a NSW stud. The sire of the stallion must have won a Group 1 race. The stallion must be nominated for the Breeders Challenge. (* Can be used to offset Breeders Challenge fees.)

Harness Racing NSW Chairman Rex Horne said that it’s a mixed bag of incentives which will assist breeding across the board.

“We understand the disincentive to invest because of rising costs,” he said.

“We also think it is important to nurture Group1 winning colonel bred stallions in the same way we have seen it happen in the thoroughbred industry.”
