Nathan Fino loves the trots and will be involved in the race this Friday night.
Melton’s Tabcorp Park won’t only host races of four-legged variety this Friday night; it will also stage a unique event to raise awareness for the Good Friday Appeal and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Thanks to an idea from one of Victorian harness racing’s favourite families, the Fino’s, drivers will jump out of the cart and into unfamiliar territory as they themselves race for glory in a one-off sulky race.
The event will feature some of the industry’s leading participants literally towing child-drivers as though they were the horse in a 100m dash up the Tabcorp Park straight.
The competitors for the race will be Jason and Nathan Fino, Kate Gath and Haley Fino, Greg Sugars and Katie Alford, Chris Alford and Sam Alford, Daryl Douglas and Georgia Vozlic and Thomas Douglas as well as Kerryn Manning and Holi Campbell.
Rachael Fino will be on track raising funds for the cause and spoke about her personal experiences with the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“Our son Nath has Down syndrome and has had to use the children's hospital since he was born. He’s had 3 open heart surgeries - one when he was 12 weeks, 3 years and last December,” Fino said.
“Without that hospital Nath wouldn't be with us today so it's our way to say thank you to the hospital and raise as much money as possible so that they can continue to have funds to save our precious kids.
“As parents all we ask for is to see our children happy and the Good Friday Appeal is our way of giving back.”
Rob Auber will be on track to conduct interviews prior to the race with a presentation to the winners following the event.
