Glenn Douglas has had a terrific time of it, racking up plenty of wins at Bendigo in recent seasons.
In an identical result to last season, Bendigo trainer Glenn Douglas and Bolinda driver Chris Alford have taken out the Bendigo Harness Racing Club’s top two performance awards for the 2012/13 season.
The highlight to the close of the season was the battle for the premier driver’s award, with last year’s number one Chris Alford 5 points behind Gavin Lang going into last night’s final race meeting for the season.
Lang wasn’t at Lord’s Raceway and Alford made the most of his absence, winning two races on the eight race card to snatch a five point victory.
Daryl Douglas, who was sidelined for more than two months after a fall at Ballarat’s 2012 Boxing Day race meeting finished third, 23 points behind Alford.
Alford has now won the Bendigo Driver’s title four times.
Glenn Douglas (102pts) dominated the local trainer’s premiership throughout the season and finished two wins ahead of Avenel’s David Aiken at the close of the Bendigo season last night.
However with 16 winners and 15 minor placings to the Anderson Racing stable, 19 points separated Douglas and Aiken on the scoreboard.
This year’s title was Douglas’ seventh victory at Bendigo, with the trainer first winning the premiership in the 2003-04 season. He has remained on top in consecutive years since 2007-2008.
Haydon Gray (57pts) took out the Concession Driver’s title for the first time with a 5 point win over Ellen Tormey (52) and last year’s award winner Josh Duggan (40).
Team Douglas also produced the top two performing horses for the year.
Johnny Tee (NZ) scored three wins and four placings to win the Horse of the Year Award with 18 points from his stablemate Rogers Joy (14), who notched up three wins and a placing.
Johnny Tee (NZ), a gelding by Falcon Seelster is now racing in Queensland for the Chantal Turpin stable.
Bendigo’s Chris Svanosio trained and drove the Bendigo Trotter of the Year, Tiroroa Idol. The Framework gelding is raced by Bendigo committeeman, Peter Svanosio.
Awards will be presented to each recipient at a BOTDA/BHRC awards lunch later this year.
