Horse ownership can be a very fickle interest, however when success comes it can be a very rewarding experience.

So it is with our Owners for the month of March, namely Dianne Kelly, Jackie Gibson and Alan Colwell.

The Kelly family have been breeding and racing winners for decades but it is Dianne who rates one of this month’s awards. As the owner of the outstanding filly, Frith, she has experienced the level of success all owners can aspire to.

This filly has been competitive at the highest level, possessed of brilliant gate speed, perfectly mannered and stamina to boot. She is the perfect package. Given the family history she will be an outstanding broodmare and continue the Kelly family story for years to come.

The Gibson family are also an institution in Harness Racing. As the proprietors of Success Stud they have been breeding and presenting for sale, quality yearlings for decades.

On this occasion the Owners Association wishes to recognise the achievements of Jackie Gibson. During the month of March she was represented by two winners namely, Our Sixpence, and Eye Catching, with the efforts of Our Sixpence of particular significance, especially her Group 1 win in the Ladyship Mile.

Our third winner in March is long time member Alan Colwell. A Western Districts resident, Alan epitomises the qualities of the great majority of owners, namely faith and persistence and a will to win.

Alan only managed one winner last season and then experienced his first win of this season at Dubbo on the 16th March with his horse, Prince Raymac. Way to go Alan.

As with previous monthly award winners these three March nominees are eligible to win a trip for two to Las Vegas for one week with one thousand dollars spending money.

The draw for this prize will take place at our annual awards night on 28th September 2013, and the winner must be present to claim it otherwise the draw will continue until a winner is found.
Of special notice is the start of the Annual Owners Bonus Scheme with the Dubbo meeting on 1st May. This follows with Young on 17th May and Bankstown on 31st May, with a total of 10 meetings in the scheme.

To be eligible the managing owner of the horse must be a member of the Owners Association when the horse is nominated for the event. These bonuses are worth up to $1000 per win and for full conditions and dates contact Peter Plummer on 0418 641726 or refer to our website www.nswsoa.org.au.
