Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is pleased to reveal that its longstanding partnership with the Victorian Harness Racing Sports Club (VHRSC) is set to continue with a new deal announced for the sponsorship of this year’s Victoria Derby series.
The announcement is great news for all harness racing followers with the VHRSC being a major contributor to operations at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Not only have they done a fantastic job in running membership packages for all those wishing to be a part of the Tabcorp Park community but they retain a strong presence in the Moonee Ponds area whilst operating the Junction Hotel.
The team at the VHRSC have been long-time supporters of harness racing and retain their track record of sponsoring the blue riband events of the sport.
HRV CEO John Anderson explained that the partnership has been highly valued over a long period of time and this announcement will only help to strengthen it.
“It’s been great to be involved with the VHRSC for so many years. To link their name to the Victoria Derby is something special for both parties,” Anderson said.
“This year’s VHRSC Victoria Derby nominations are the best crop of three-year-olds ever assembled. The winner will rightly be crowned Australasia’s best.”
The Victoria Derby is a perfect fit with a history of producing the most precocious and well-rounded talents of the sport.
An honour roll which includes Sushi Sushi, Captain Joy and Lombo Pocket Watch in the most recent years is one to behold. Then there are greats of the sport like Paleface Adios who have taken out the event in years gone by.
President of the VHRSC Emmy Mazetti places the Victoria Derby high on the pecking order in-terms of the most prestigious races in the state.
“Apart from the big ones like the Hunter Cup and Inter Dominions this is the race; if you’ve got a good three-year-old everybody wants to win a Derby,” he said.
“It’s not only good for harness racing it’s good for the club, it gives our club great exposure and I can only hope that in the future we can continue our association.”
