HRNSW Media Release (interim) - Stewards Inquiry Jackson Painting and Blake Jones

HRNSW Stewards today conducted inquiries into the betting activities of Trainers/Drivers Mr Jackson Painting and Mr Blake Jones.

Stewards also reopened an inquiry into Mr Jackson Painting’s handling of AURORA BELL which competed in Race 1 at Parkes on 13 May 2012.

Trainer/Driver Mr Jackson Painting pleaded guilty to the following 10 charges pursuant to Rule 173(1) , which states:

“A driver shall not bet in a race in which the driver participates”.

The particulars being:

1. On 26 September 2011 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on PUNCHONEINTOYA which competed in Race 7 at the Canberra Harness Meeting on that day. Mr Jackson Painting drove the said horse and the bet was $100 to win.

2. On 14 October 2011 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on PEPPERILL BEIJING which competed in Race 3 at the Wagga Harness Meeting on that day. Mr Jackson Painting drove the said horse and the bet was $500 to win.

3. On 4 November 2011 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on ACESWILLDO which competed in Race 7 at the Wagga Harness Meeting on that day. Mr Jackson Painting drove the said horse and the bet was $150 to win.

4. On 18 May 2012 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on SPEEDYASELL which competed in Race 7 at the Wagga Harness Meeting on that day. Mr Jackson Painting drove the said horse and the bet to win was $200.

5. On 23 May 2012 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on LUCYS PENNY which competed in Race 5 at the Parkes Harness Meeting on that day. The bet was $720 to win of which $600 was his portion of the bet. He drove the horse in the race.

6. On 14 October 2011 he placed a Quaddie bet of $25 via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp, at the Wagga Harness Meeting on that day which incorporated races 3, 4 5 and 6 of which Painting drove in all four legs and wagered on other horses in legs two and three. It should also be noted he also wagered on the Quaddie selection on his own horses in all four legs.

7. On 23 May 2012 he placed a Quaddie bet of $50 via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on the Parkes Harness Meeting on that day on multiple horses which incorporated races 4 5 6 and 7. Mr Painting only drove in the 1st leg of the Quaddie however selected his own and other runners in that leg.

8. On 13 May 2012 he placed a Running Double on Races 1 and 2 at Parkes via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp. The first leg Bet was on THE REAL EAGLE NZ which he not drive. He drove AURORA BELL.

He also placed a bet on the horse LUCYS PENNY which he drove as the second leg of the double. This bet was a $100 running double bet.

9. On 13 May 2012 at Parkes Harness Meeting he placed a Parlay Bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on the first three races on that day. The bet was $100. The first leg bet was on THE REAL EAGLE NZ which he did not drive. He drove AURORA BELL.

10. On 13 May at Parkes Harness Meeting he placed a 4 leg Parlay Bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp . The bet was the 4th leg each way on No 6 which was a $100 Parlay. The first leg bet was on THE REAL EAGE NZ which he did not drive. He drove AURORA BELL.

After consideration the Stewards issued the following penalties:

1. Charges 1 to 5 - $400 fine on each charge.

2. Charges 6 to 7 – 2 Months Disqualification

3. Charges 8, 9 and 10 – 6 Months Disqualification

Stewards ordered that the periods of disqualification be served concurrently effective immediately.

Stewards today took further evidence from Mr Jackson Painting regarding his drive on AURORA BELL in Race 1 and presented evidence from Trainer Mr I Williamson and also Mr Painting’s betting records and telephone betting account.

After taking evidence and reviewing the Stewards’ video footage, Stewards were not satisfied to the requisite standard that a charge against Mr Jackson Painting under Rule 147 in that he did not allow AURORA BELL to run on its merits could be sustained, notwithstanding that Jackson Painting had supported the eventual winner THE REAL EAGLE NZ in three different bet types.

 

Further, Trainer/driver Mr Blake Jones pleaded guilty to the following 3 charges pursuant to Rule 173(1) which states:

 

“A driver shall not bet in a race in which the driver participates”.

1. On 11 January 2012 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on MCARMBRO which competed in Race 9 at the Parkes Harness Meeting on that day. Further Mr Blake Jones drove the said horse and the bet was $50 to win.

2. On 2 February 2012 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on TRIPLE FIRE FAST which competed in Race 3 at the Wagga Harness Meeting on that day. Further Mr Blake Jones drove the said horse and the bet was $50 each way.

3. On 17 March 2012 he placed a bet via the Wagering Operator Tabcorp on ARRIVERDERCI TIGER which competed in Race 6 at the Tabcorp Park Menangle on that day. Further Mr Blake Jones drove the said horse and the bet was $30 each way.

After consideration Mr Blake Jones was fined the sum of $500 on each charge.
