Im Themightyquinn made a massive statement by winning the Gr.1 $250,000 Stallion Station Fremantle Cup at Gloucester Park tonight.

Widely recognised as the fastest pacer in the country, Im Themightyquinn delivered a brilliant burst of speed down the back straight to score a commanding victory from a gallant Washakie and Ima Spicey Lombo.

Im Themightyquinn is prepared by leading West Australian father/son combination of Gary Hall Snr. whilst Gary Jnr. took the winning drive.

The New Zealand bred gelding made it back to back victories in the Fremantle Cup after scoring last year under stand start conditions.

Punters rallied behind the local champion with Im Themightyquinn starting a warm favourite despite his tricky front-row draw.

Noted speedster Has The Answers fired out of the gate and took up the leading role whilst Washakie and Dasher VC also pushed forward and applied early pressure.

The lead time was posted in 92.3 seconds for the 2906m mobile event.

The pace remained constant when Ima Rocket Star made a mid-race dash three wide, Has The Answers and Dasher VC both kicked up and made Ima Rocket Star work hard.

The first quarter of the last mile was covered in 30.5 seconds and eventually Dasher VC was able to run to the front with Ima Rocket Star sat parked outside the leader.

The moves continued as Morgan Woodley injected talented 4yo Crombie into the event, Crombie quickly raced up on the outside of his stablemate and leader Dasher VC.

The second quarter was posted in 31.2 seconds.

Entering the back straight on the final occasion, Dasher VC led narrowly from Crombie whilst Washakie loomed ominously three wide.

Ima Spicey Lombo followed up behind Washakie with race favourite Im Themightyquinn sitting coiled in the three wide line.

When Gary Hall Jnr. elected to cut loose down the back straight, the crowd roared strongly as he quickly sailed to the lead with only Washakie looking any possible danger.

The third quarter was registered in 30 seconds.

Approaching the home turn, Im Themightyquinn had quickly put the race beyond doubt after displaying his trademark sprint off the back straight whilst Washakie tried valiantly.

At the finish, Im Themightyquinn scored officially by 2.6m from Washakie whilst there was another 11.2m back to Ima Spicey Lombo.

The mile rate was 1.57.5.

“That was an unbelievable victory,” Gary Hall Snr. beamed.

“His speed won him the race tonight, that was brilliant.” Hall Snr. added.

Im Themightyquinn will back-up in next week's Gr.1 $400,000 Find 30 WA Cup at Gloucester Park as the Barastoc Grand Circuit action continues in Perth.

Im Themightyquinn now has six points courtesy of his Fremantle Cup success and Victoria Cup third placing with the promise of plenty more to come this season.
