Monkey King was formally crowned the Barastoc Pacers Grand Circuit Champion during Harness Racing New Zealand’s Annual Awards Dinner at AMI Stadium, Christchurch, last night.
Harness Racing Australia Chairman, Mr Geoff Want, was on hand to present the award on behalf of Barastoc, noting that Monkey King was 'Mr Consistency' across the circuit, completing a near faultless season which netted him victories in the New Zealand Cup, Show Day FFA and SEW-Eurodrive Miracle Mile – the minor hiccups (if you could call them that) being a fine second placing in the Watpac Inter Dominion Pacing Grand Final and an unlucky fourth in the SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup from a horror draw.
With four Grand Circuit victories to his credit during the season, Monkey King was a deserved Champion of the 2009/10 Barastoc Grand Circuit, accumulating a total of 22 points, 10 clear of his nearest rival, Bettors Strike.
Congratulations were extended to owner Robert Famularo and his Cavalla Bloodstock Company, trainer Brendon Hill, driver Ricky May and all of the team behind the horse affectionately known as 'Sam'.
