Daryl Douglas in action
Daryl Douglas created Victorian harness history with his win aboard Radical Assassin on Monday night at Terang.
The Bendigo reinsman notched his 250th Victorian winner of the season when he won the second-last race on the card aboard the Peter Tonkin-trained six-year-old.
It is the sixth year in a row Douglas has cracked the milestone and presented him with the record for the most consecutive 250-win seasons by a driver in Victoria.
Douglas previously shared the record with world record-breaking female driver Kerryn Manning, who achieved the feat every season from 2000/01 to 2004/05.
The 37-year-old, who has driven 260 winners nationwide in 2009/10, remains a chance to become the first Australian driver to put four 300-win seasons on end.
Douglas, a winner of 3489 races in his career, first cracked the triple century when he secured back-to-back Australian Drivers’ Premierships with 320 winners in 2006/07.
He followed up with an Australasian record 388 winners in 2007/08 before piloting 358 winners last year.
Douglas could stop driving now and still win a fifth straight Victorian Drivers’ Premiership. He is currently 69 wins clear of Chris Alford, with Greg Sugars (166), Gavin Lang (164), Manning (130) rounding out the top five.
Jodi Quinlan (101) and Nathan Jack (100) brought up their centuries on Monday – at Warragul and Terang respectively – while Damian Wilson is just one win away from his first Victorian ton.
Daryl’s milestone capped a big seven days for the Douglas family with brother Glenn, also from Bendigo, training his 100th Victorian winner last week.
The 36-year-old notched the feat when Stirling Charmer completed a winning double at his home track on Monday, June 28.
It is the third season in a row that Douglas has topped the ton and has him on track for a third consecutive Victorian Trainers’ Premiership.
His current tally of 105 affords him a 12-win buffer over Peter Manning, who has Lance Justice just four wins behind.
