Newly crowned Victorian Horse of the Year Mont Denver
Gold (pictured) will continue his low-key build-up to the SEW-Eurodrive
Miracle Mile at Kilmore this Friday afternoon.
The Alford stable will take advantage of
his light country assessment to tackle the $4000 C7-C9 event second-up from a
break.
The Hunter Cup hero suffered a shock defeat when
resuming at Ballarat nine days ago, finishing second.
On that occasion, his condition gave out in the last
50 metres after In The Queue stacked them up early and then reeled off a
27.7sec closing quarter to salute.
"I wasn't at all disappointed with his first-up
effort considering how the race was run," driver and co-trainer Chris
Alford said.
"Going to Kilmore this week has nothing to do
with him being beaten first-up, I was always going to keep him to these sort of
races for his first two or three runs back."
A fitter Mont Denver Gold will prove awfully hard to
beat from gate two in a small field of five.
The W'illira Heating & Cooling Pace will feature
at 1.32pm (AET).
