Big race specialist John Caldow will pilot boom juvenile Self Denial in Thursday night?s Group 1 Vicbred 2YO Fillies Final at Moonee Valley.

?

Caldow replaces Gavin Lang who has elected not to appeal a two week suspension incurred last Thursday night.

?

?It was a welcome surprise and I?m very happy to be given the opportunity?.she?s an outstanding filly?, said Caldow.

?

?She won her semi very impressively and despite the wide draw she?s still the one they have to beat.?

?

Renowned for his outstanding record in fillies? classics, Caldow will be chasing his 19th Group 1 title when he takes the reins for young Bendigo trainer Sonia Mahar.

?

Under the guidance of Mahar, Self Denial has stamped herself as the nation?s premier juvenile filly winning six from seven.

?

She had little trouble leading throughout in last week?s semi from gate three, but must contend with gate seven in the $100,000 final.

?

Despite the wide draw, Self Denial is still rated the early favourite at $2.50.

?

Whilst Caldow was reluctant to discuss driving tactics at this early stage, it?s expected the star filly will push forward and utilise her exceptional gate speed.

?

In what shapes as an intriguing battle of tactics, fellow semi final winner Bella Joy has drawn to lead from gate three with Darren Hancock in the sulky.

?

Kerryn Gath, scheduled to return after her nasty fall at Globe Derby last Friday, has elected to pilot stablemate Yada Yada Yada despite her inside second line draw.

?

The field for the $100,000 Vicbred Super Series 2YO Fillies Final (2090m), to be run at 7.10pm (AET), is;

In other news, Caldow has also picked up the drive on the Lang-trained Willie Walker in tomorrow night?s Group 1 Vicbred 2YO Colts & Geldings Final.

?

A luckless third in last week?s semi, the underrated pacer looms as a ?smokey? despite drawing awkwardly in gate seven.

?

The Grant Crane-trained powerhouse The Sentry dominates pre-post betting from gate five after his slashing qualifying win.
