A training treble is pretty amazing in itself, but training a treble with your son on board is something else, and on Thursday March 28, Sarah Suvaljko did just that with her eldest son Joseph Suvaljko in the cart at Wagin.

What we can only imagine is a first in history, a mother and son winning trifecta, Suvaljko confirmed he received no special treatment after the feat, making mention that his mum promised to buy him dinner, but failed to follow through on the promise by the end of the night.

“She offered to buy me dinner but that didn’t hold true,”

“She trained three winners for me, so Ill let her off this time.” Joseph Suvaljko said.

The Thirsty Vet has been knocking on the door of his first win for quite some time, but it was start 22 that proved fruitful for the now five-year-old who won his first race outside of his grade nonetheless.

Starting from barrier one in race two on the card, a level 1/3 over the 2180m trip, The Thirsty Vet settled behind the leader throughout the entire journey, but with a run coming on the final turn, Suvaljko angled his way out, coming home the better to win by 2.6m on the line.

They would have still been celebrating the first win when Rockin The Trend gave the team a race-to-race double, with the seven-year-old mare bringing up career win nine from 127 starts.

Isaidboo rounded out the festivities, with the nine-year-old saluting at $19 odds with a narrow margin in a tight finish in race four over the 1776m sprint trip around Wagin.

The veteran gelding has been knocking around in the placings of late, but Thursday nights win brought up his ninth career victory in 135 starts, with earnings now just over $76,000.

Bringing up Joeys first driving treble, the 21-year-old has now had 37 career wins since making his debut during the 2018/19 racing season.

It’s been a whirlwind few months of milestones for Suvaljko, with the 51-year-old claiming her 200th training success late last year with Isaidboo at Narrogin, which also coincided with her youngest, Aaron, driving his first winner, with Suvaljko describing Thursday nights wins as “Quite surreal.”

A bit of healthy banter between the two, Suvaljko did joke that Joseph wouldn’t even know where the wash down bay is to help her after the races, but gave credit where it was due, mentioning that he did at least help ungear.
